Local Churches to Join Together in Meal Packaging Event to Fight Hunger
Divine Street United Methodist Church will join with Dunn’s First Presbyterian and Glad Tidings churches to sponsor a Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event on Saturday, April 1, at the First Presbyterian Church of Dunn. Also helping sponsor the event are Leslie United Methodist Church, Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Grove Presbyterian Church, Bluff Presbyterian Church and Boy Scout Troop 711.
The Stop Hunger Now organization was founded in Raleigh by United Methodist Minister, Ray Buchanan, to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable populations. Since that time, the program has distributed 300 million meals with the goal of ending world-wide hunger by the year 2030. In addition, the program focuses on education, crop cultivation and clean water initiatives.
Meal packaging volunteers produce millions of nutritious meals annually that are distributed to partners in countries around the world. Those partners are the best able to address the causes and effects of hunger based on their local presence and expertise. Through thorough monitoring, the meals distributed by those partners are also used to change lives by promoting education, improving students’ health and nutrition, stimulating growth and fighting child labor.
Dr. Barbara Bethea, coordinator of the Stop Hunger Now event, said “I am so proud to be involved with a humanitarian initiative that touches so many lives.”
Those who would like to participate in the Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event may pre-register online at http://events.stophungernow.org/DunnNC. Volunteers may register for unloading and set-up (7:45-9:00 a.m.), packaging (9:00-11:00 a.m.) and/or clean-up (11:00-11:45 a.m.).
